Zoo Trip

We went to the zoo today with my friend Katie, her baby Kyla and Katie's cousin Michelle and her baby Gracie. We had beautiful weather and a great day -- here are some pics (thank you Katie for letting me steal some of yours!)

Kindergarten Haircut

My hairdresser went all out for Charlie's much needed beginning-of-the-schoolyear haircut, even giving Charlie a pre cut shampoo and condition. The best part? She still only charged me $12!
Here are some pics of Charlie's first "grown up" haircut...

New Look...

So when I went to the eye doctor the other week he made me swear I would embrace my inner dork and start wearing glasses as much as possible, to protect my right eye since it is the only one that actually has any useful vision. So here they are... How much they are actually worn remains to be seen ;)

Busy Weekend

Yesterday we went up to New Hampshire and spent the day swimming, fishing and boating on the lake. It was hot and humid and the fish were biting, so it was a perfect day for all three of those activities!

We spent the night and then, after another successful round of fishing this morning, headed next door to Candia NH where we had Groupons for a water park. The kids had fun -- there was a big spray ground for Amelia, and Charlie had a blast on the zip line; Mike was afraid he was going to chicken out once they got up to the tower but he was practically pushing the attendent out of the way so he could go. They also had a giant floating water slide in the middle of a man made lake, which proved to be quite a work out for us adults trying to keep up with a very active five year old... Here are some pictures of the weekend's boating, fishing and splashing!

Fenway First

Mike took Charlie to Fenway Park for his first baseball game today - a minor league game between the Portland Sea Dogs and the Birmingham Mets. The game went into extra innings; the boys lasted into the 11th inning before deciding to head home. Here are some pics Mike took while there, of Charlie at the Ted Williams statue, in the ballpark, and eating cotton candy. Looks like it was a fun day!

Dress Up

Amelia clearly needs a bin of dress up clothes so she no longer has to raid Charlie's dresser...

New Words

Amelia has developed quite the vocabulary over the past several weeks, saying new words every day. Today's new word was "run", which she came home from daycare saying, and accompanying the word with the action: "Run! Run!" as she tore around the house. New phrases this week are "I want" and I don't want" which come out as "Iwanna!" and "Idonwanna!", respectively. More new words this week are "puddle" and "rain" thanks to the ridiculously rainy day we had on Monday, as well as "dino" and the phrase "I do it!" (Idooit!") said in the same ridiculously whiny tone as the aforementioned phrases. Many more new words to come, I'm sure!

Rhode Island

The kids and I went down to Rhode Island for the night with Heather yesterday; her family has a camper in Jamestown which Heather and I frequented while we were in college, but which I had not been back to since having the kids. It was fun to introduce Charlie and Amelia to the Purple Cow frozen yogurt we used to get all the time, and to Dell's Lemonade. The kids also got to go to the beach for the first time this summer (and I remembered why I hardly ever take them, all that sand!!) While I can't exactly say they were the best behaved children in the world (read: they behaved like the spawn of Satan) we definitely enjoyed the sun and salt air. Thanks for taking us, Heather! (And I know you will not volunteer to take the children anywhere overnight again until they are oh, maybe eighteen and twenty two...)
Here are some pictures from our ordeal, err I mean mini vacation... :)

Rashy Kid

Poor Charlie has been back and forth to the pediatrician 3 times in the past week for a number of skin conditions that seem to be piling up on each other. He has what is apparently a common virus in children, called molluscum contagiosum, that causes small blisters that are apparently going to heal on their own in a few months. Unfortunately he has picked at a few of them, resulting in several on his legs that are infected. So this first issue has sent us to the doctor twice; with one week of Keflex doing nothing to clear up the infection we have switched to Bactrim which seems to be doing the trick. Our second issue is that on Monday Charlie woke up with a second raised red mystery rash that extends from the middle of his spine down the back of both legs and apparently is only vaguely itchy. The new rash has sent us to the doctor twice and thus far remains a mystery. Having no idea what this new rash could be, the only thing the pediatrician is able to offer us is that if it is still there on Monday she will send us to a pediatric dermatologist. Poor Charlie!
